What is House music?
House music is a genre of electronic dance that was created by DJs and music producers in the 1980s in Chicago's underground club culture. It started when DJs began to alter some disco songs to give them deeper basslines and a mechanical beat, what characterized this genre is the typical tempo or 120-130 beats per minute, and a reiterative four-on-the-floor beat. It rose to prominence in the early 80s when the disco era ended, and today is the oldest genre within electronic dance music and remains one of its main pillars.
Many people wonder how it got its name, and it all goes back to its history. Towards the end of the disco era and the end of the success of Studio 54, in a venue called The Warehouse, important Djs of the moment like Frankie Knuckles, Kenny Carpenter and others started to push boundaries of what was allowed to be played and began to create their “new music”. This caught many artists' attention and soon after they started to ask the Djs to play their latest tracks as a way of launching them, and releasing the records the next morning in the stores. So the rumour says that the people that were in the club the previous night went to the record store the next day asking for the track of the warehouse, the warehouse track, and finally the house track. Which is how house music was born.
The way DJs at the time manipulated records was by repeating and making emphasis in different sections, lengthening them and adding pre-set percussions that highlighted the solid beats that define house music. Its main characteristics are:

- Synthesiser riffs
- Looped samples
- A tempo around 120-130 bpm (beats per minute)
