What is piano music?
The piano was invented around the year 1700 by Bartolomeo Cristofori of Italy. He was not pleased by the poor volume control musicians had on the harpsichord, so he switched out the plucking mechanism with a hammer. The first name this instrument was given was “clavicembalo col piano e forte” which translates to a “harpsichord, that can produce both loud and soft sounds”. It seems very hard to categorize solo piano pieces, since “piano” is actually not an official genre.
